Invoice 3 - Frequently Asked Questions

What is Invoice 3?

Invoice is a full-featured invoice application for SOHO or business users. It has been designed from scratch to use the power and beauty of the Mac OS, while making life as easy as possible for its users. Since Invoice was designed purely for OSX, it is not simply a port from another platform, unable to take full advantage of the OSX operating system. Invoice uses it ALL.

What is Invoice 3 not?

Invoice is not a full featured complex merchandise software. Invoice is NOT for you, if you manage a big stock in multiple areas and want to use a software which should be able to connect to a central database server.

Is Totals 2 the successor of Invoice 3?

Yes, it is. Because of the completely different user interface we decided to name it Totals 2 and not Invoice 4.

I have purchased Invoice but not received a retailed box yet?

We don't ship Invoice 3 in a retailed box. Please download the trial version and request a serial number in order to use it.

How can I register the software?

You can go to our web store and purchase a serial number. The serial number will be listed in the receipt. Then open the registration window in Invoice 3. Go to Menu bar > Invoice 3 > Registration... and enter your registration name and serial number in the registration window.

What are the limitations of the free trial version?

There is absolutely no limitation except the 30 days for testing. After 30 days the application will not run anymore until you enter a serial number. Your data will not be deleted.

The free trial download IS the full version. You need only to purchase a serial number. There is no magic behind the order process. You just enter the serial number in order to use the application after 30 days trial.

The are no locked features which will be unlocked after you register the software.

Where is my data stored?

Each store (or database) is stored in a separate bundle. The first bundle is always named "Default.invoicestore" (hidden extension). All forthcoming bundles will have a unique name generated by the application.

The bundles are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Invoice3. However you can define another place in Stores.plist if you want. To do this, you have to quit Invoice 3 before you edit the file Stores.plist.

Don't forget to append the .invoicestore suffix to the path.

Please note that starting with 10.7, the Library folder can be hidden. There are several ways to access the Library folder.

How can I backup my data?

It is sufficient to backup the store bundle which is described above. All your data like SQLite Database, PDF files, configuration files and layouts are store in this bundles.

I need to transfer my data to another computer

It is not different than to backup and restore your data. Just copy your Invoice3 folder to your new mac and you are (almost) done. The only step is to check if the path in Store.plist is still pointing to your database bundle. If not, you need to adjust the path in Store.plist. This can happen if you are using a different username (mac login name) which means that your home folder name is now different, too.

I get the message "no pages from the document were selected to be printed"
